Novgorod Kremlin | ||||||||||||
| Novgorod (the "new city") was founded in 859 on the Volkhov River in the place of an older fortification. The Kremlin remains the center of Novgorod to present day. It features the chief Cathedral of St. Sofia, dating from the time of Yaroslavl I, 1045-1052. The official title of the city is "Novgorod the Great". | ||||||||||||
